Using Blogs in Professional Development

Think about your Personal Learning Network.  What are your professional interests?  How are you engaging others in your Personal Learning Network?  How are you connecting and sharing with others?

This week I'm facilitating an online discussion on how to use blogs in professional development for teachers.  Below are two ways  teachers can use blogs to support their professional development:

1.  Establish learning communities with their colleagues to share resources and tips
2.  Use blogs to learn, share, and collaborate with subject matter experts

How do you think teachers can use blogs in their professional development?

  2. I think that using blogs to share resourecs and ideas with other teachers is a great idea.

I would like to share a couple of websites with other ESL teachers.
One web site is http://a4esl.org/a/v.html. It has more than various 1,000 activities and covers all levels. It works for the teacher to teach multi-level ESL classes as well. Activities include matching words and pictures, puzzles, crosswords, and scramble words. It helps students improve their vocabulary, grammar, and technology skills.
The other web site I chose is Learning Line web site. http://www.rmpbs.org/resources/files/education/learningline/page01.htm It focuses on improving communication skills and helps students apply their learning to their real life. It is composed of 5 main CASAS competencies: Basic Communication, Consumer Economics, Community Resources, Health, and Employment. Students can listen to important conversations and practice them. It helps students be able to understand and communicate in a variety of contexts related to daily life and work.

  3. There are so many resources to choose from, it is difficult to narrow down the field. Of course, having a computer available for students to use has to be the most important. Once they have the computer, there are numerous websites that can be utilized for educational purposes. One such site that has been beneficial for me is http://www.theowlatpurdue.com. when you go to this site, you can get any kind of help with regards to the written English language from an online school to writing a thesis paper, to research papers to APA format.

  4. Utilizing technology via the web opens up our world! Both teachers and students can now travel the globe with the click of a mouse. I want to provide my beginning level English learners with websites, blogs and video pods to enhance their ability to access and learn English. That's why I am very invested in learning new information that will improve my ability to teach students. Thanks for this exciting and rewarding learning opportunity. You make it FUN!
